Google is reportedly working on a new feature for it’s Chrome Browser – that’ll let users double-click on the mouse to close active tabs.
This mouse shortcut is much more helpful and easy than the traditional way of hitting the X option of the concerned tab, while the keyboard shortcut is a bit better. Well, though users are adding this ability through browser extensions, having native support for closing tabs is also much appreciated.
Mouse Shortcut to Close Chrome Tabs
If you’re a Chrome power user, you must be using a number of shortcuts to handle your daily operations and one among them could be hitting Ctrl + W for closing any active tabs. Well, Google is reportedly working on a new mouse shortcut that can do the same – if you’re interested.
It looks like Chrome will soon let you close tabs with a double click:https://t.co/QFfhuEMMEW

As noted by @Leopeva64, a code evidence in the Chromium Gerrit suggests a function on Chrome – that lets users close active tabs by double-clicking on the mouse. Currently, if you want to do the same, you have to hit the X button available at the top of the concerned tab. And this becomes irritating if you have dozens of tabs open at a time.
Thus, a double click on the mouse is much more appreciated. While this is still in the works with no timeline on it’s availability, interested users can try this function with a suitable browser extension if wanted. Named “Double Click Closed Tab“, this extension for Chrome can let users close active tabs by simply double-clicking on either button of the mouse.
This can be set to triple-clicking, too, and set the double-clicking to another function if needed. And not just that, you can also open closed tabs with your choice of a double right click. Google is seen following Microsoft’s path in this case, as this feature was brought to Edge eight months ago – after being asked by the community years ago.
