Google Meet app on Samsung TV is reportedly shutting down on March 9, 2024, as per a SamMobile user who noticed the warning banner appearing on their TV app this week.
While a reason for this wasn’t mentioned, lack of popularity could be behind the app’s pulldown. As we wait for more details from Google or Samsung, the app closure notice comes less than two years after it’s launch on Samsung TVs.
Google Meet app on Samsung TV
Google Meet is one of the essential services for remote workers, who access the app from various devices to be in touch with their teams. One such platform is Samsung TV, where the Google Meet app was introduced back in October 2022 to let users attend their online meetings seamlessly.
With a webcam plugged into the TV, Google Meet on a Samsung TV works similarly to that on a tablet, phone, or computer. While it’s pretty helpful, Google is reportedly dumping it’s Meet app on Samsung TVs, as noted by a SamMobile user this week.
The user claims that opening Google Meet on Samsung TV showed a banner that says the app is shutting down on March 9, 2024 – less than two years after it’s launch. The same is happening on Samsung Smart Monitors, too, which offer Meet on Tizen OS.
As we wait for more details to roll-in, Google has also recently shut down Assistant support on Samsung TVs. So we’ll be on the lookout for relevant forums, support pages and press releases to know why it’s cutting the Meet app, too.
Until then, if you’re a Samsung TV user and have a Google Meet app running, do check and share more details in the reply/comment section.
