In a shocking revelation to Pixel Watch users, Google doesn’t have a repair policy for it’s smartwatch, as noted by several users on Google’s support page and social platforms.
This claim was later confirmed by Google to The Verge, forcing the Pixel Watch users to buy a new product in case of damage. This contrasts Google’s repair policies for Pixel smartphones and tablets, which have replacement parts and guides whenever needed.
There is no Repair Policy for Pixel Watch
Google’s Pixel Watch is one of the best WearOS smartwatches. It ticks the right boxes regarding design and specifications but has drawbacks regarding average battery life and a high price tag. Adding to this is a new finding – that Google has no screen repair policy for Pixel Watch!
This was revealed on multiple Reddit threads (1, 2) and on Google support page, where several people discussed how Google denies replacing a cracked screen. A Google spokesperson confirms this to The Verge;
“At this moment, we don’t have any repair option for the Google Pixel Watch. If your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options.”
And when no one noticed, Google may have silently covered it’s tracks by stating this exception on it’s hardware warranty page. Well, this is quite the opposite of what the company believes, unlike the reparability policy for Pixel smartphones and tablets, where users can pick replacement parts and guide from iFixit.
Well, Google could be forced to mend it’s policies and offer spare parts. States like California, Minnesota and New York have the Right to Repair Act, which asks hardware OEMs to provide spares for their products.
For example, devices that cost more than $100 should have replacement parts available for at least seven years, while devices valued at $50 or more must offer parts for at least three years, per California’s law.
