Following up on an important topic on Google Chat is easy now, as the company adds support for quote replies in it’s latest update for the chat app.
With this, users can quote any previous message in a conversation to reply dedicatedly – and be better understood in the chat. This feature has long been available on several instant messengers but Google is picking up now.
Quoting Messages in Google Chat
Killing Hangouts, Google renewed it’s native chat app – Google Chat – to be used as a major communication space for all types of purposes. Though the service evolved with new features in every update, it’s lacking one important support all this time – quoting a reply in a conversation.
And Google is filling this gap now! As noted in it’s Workspace Blog, Google said it’s adding support for quoting any previous message while sending a reply on it’s Chat app. This would bring important parts of conversations to the forefront, thereby keeping the interested parties better informed.
If you don’t know how this works, it’s the same as you do it on WhatsApp, Slack, or any other modern-day instant messenger. Users will select a message in the ongoing conversation and can directly reply to it. This will show up both the reply and the original message together in the chat.
Though Google is late to this addition, we’re glad that they at least did it now. The company says this feature is available on Google Workspace, legacy G Suite Basic, G Suite Business and personal accounts, both web and mobile clients.
While it’ll be rolling out to those in the Rapid Release channel now and Scheduled Channel later, everyone should be seeing this from the start of June.
