A survey by Life360 revealed that Gen Z are most likely to share their location with their parents for their good.

Apps like Apple’s Find My, Google’s Family Link and Life360 have gained popularity amongst this generation, who quote several reasons for giving up their location to their parents. But Psychologists also refer to the growing anxieties among Gen Z as the primary reason for their sharing choice.

Sharing Location For Their Wellbeing

A survey by Life360, a family location tracking app, revealed that Gen Z – those aged between 11 and 26 – are more likely to share their location with their parents. The report also quotes that Gen Z is more anxious than previous generations and grew up so close with the technology, thus having a different understanding of location sharing.

While many consider it a breach of the right to privacy, Gen Z thinks otherwise. The WSJ states the combination of anxiety and closer relationships between teens and their parents as likely reasons for sharing location irresistibly and that’s true for some part, as indulging in social media most of the time and access to real-time news with vivid images about the pandemic, war and other disasters, Gen Z is exposed to heightened anxieties than any other generation.

This is reflected heavily in the statistical growth of location-sharing apps like Apple’s Find Me, Google’s Family Link, Life360 and others. More specifically, the Life360 app has over 33 million monthly active users in the U.S. and 20 million more globally.

Some Gen Z even report leaving their location sharing enabled 24/7 to their parents. In contrast, others activate it for specific situations, like driving far distances, going on dates with unfamiliar people and attending significant events like concerts. Unsurprisingly, 72% of Gen Z women believe their physical well-being benefits from location sharing.

Overall, 94% of Gen Z say sharing a location with their parents or other guardians is good due to their habit of growing up early.
