Samsung’s Galaxy S7 has a special Maintenance Boot Mode with a few features and today I want to show you how to boot into it.
There are a number of reasons why you might need to boot your Galaxy S7 into the special Maintenance Boot Mode. The most obvious one will be for performing a factory reset but there are also a few other reasons. Yesterday I showed you how to boot the Galaxy S7 into Safe Mode and this is another feature that is available within this Maintenance Boot Mode. This would be useful if you have installed a 3rd party application and it is causing trouble when you try to boot the Galaxy S7 normally.
With this, you could boot into this Maintenance Boot Mode and then boot into Safe Mode so you can uninstall that offending application.
You have the ability to enable USB Debugging Mode from here, just in case you are unable to boot into the regular Android OS to enable it. Which again, this could be from a 3rd party application(or even a customization mod) that you installed which prevents you from booting into the regular Android OS for some reason or another. With this, you can enable USB Debugging Mode and then boot into Download Mode so you can flash a factory stock firmware. It’s unlikely that you will need this Maintenance Boot Mode for either of these two features, but you could definitely need it to perform a factory reset, if again, something is not letting you boot into the Android OS to do the factory reset from that way. There are a lot of things that can prevent you from booting into Android properly so this special boot mode could be very useful.

Explanation
The process is really simple, but if you have any troubles getting into this special Maintenance Boot Mode then feel free to watch the video above to see how it is done. Technically, this special boot mode might not be present on all versions of the Galaxy S7. I own the Verizon variant and while this feature doesn’t seem to be special to Verizon Wireless only, it’s certainly possible that they added it into the software for their phones. If this doesn’t work for you then let me know in the comments section below and I’ll look around to see if there is another way to get into the Maintenance Boot Mode for the Galaxy S7.
So, first you will need to power down the Galaxy S7. Wait until the device is completely shut off and then you’ll want to press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time. You’ll feel the device vibrate(at least mine did) when it gets to the first Samsung boot screen and you’ll want to keep holding down these two buttons. The screen will turn black and instead of going to the next boot screen, you’ll see it show the Maintenance Boot Mode for the Galaxy S7. You will want to let go of the Power and Volume Down buttons once you see this special boot menu screen. From here, the touch screen will not work(but only while you are in this special boot mode), and you’ll need to navigate through the menu with the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons.
If you wanted to do a factory reset from here, you’d press the Volume Down button until the Factory Reset option was highlighted and then you would press the Power button to select this option. The same goes for all of the other options within this Maintenance Boot Mode. No need to be afraid of being in this special boot mode. You can easily get out of it by highlighting the Power Down option and then pressing the Power button. This will turn your Galaxy S7 off and then you can turn it back on like you normally would. You could also choose the Normal Boot option and it will boot up your Galaxy S7 into the regular Android OS. Either of these two methods will work to get you back into Android.
I have a t-mobile Galaxy S7 and it seems like this isn’t working for me. Has anyone with a t-mobile variant been able to get into maintanence mode?
That’s because the author doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s not “maintenance mode” it’s called “recovery” and is accessed by simultaneously pressing Volume *UP* and power from a powered off state until you see the words “recovery booting” (or something to that effect).
Volume *DOWN* and power puts you in download mode which is used for manually flashing (changing/updating Android) your phone.
I appreciate the apology. I was trying to boot into recovery mode when I first discovered this maintenance mode.
I dunno if it’s Samsung that changed it up, or Verizon (because some boot methods for the Verizon variant that I have don’t work on AT&T or Sprint variants)
They are 3 different modes Recovery mode (volume+ home & power), download mode (vol- home & power) and maintenance boot mode (vol- & power newer samsungs)
I have galaxy s 7 T-Mobile and can not enable maintenance mode now matter what I try please anyone got any clue
Ya I have a canadian variant and nope… doesnt work for me either…. I notice it hasnt worked for anyone in comment section… your particular phone sounds like it has a molded rom…. why would any carrier go through the time and money to add to their phones… makes mo sense
