Game Tools on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge can provide you with a hand full of additional features to enhance your mobile gaming experience.
Yesterday I showed you what the Galaxy S7 Game Launcher was and how to use it while you’re playing a mobile game. This wasn’t the only gaming related feature that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The company also announced a feature called Game Tools. I’m not really sure exactly why Samsung would separate all of these features into two different names/toggles.
If I had to guess, I would say that maybe they wanted to bring these features to older Samsung devices but some of them weren’t able to handle all of the features.
Either way, we have two different things here and today I’m going to talk to you about the features included in the Galaxy S7 Game Tools. This feature is enabled just like the Game Launcher with the only difference being a different toggle. Once enabled, you have the ability to disable alerts while you’re in the middle of a game, you can lock the Back and Recents buttons, minimize the game, take a screenshot and even record a video of you playing the game.
All of these features are hidden within the floating button that you’re given when Game Tools are enabled. If you’re confused about how this works then be sure to watch the video down below.
Galaxy S7 Game Tools
- Launch the Settings Application
- Scroll Down and Tap on the ‘Advanced Features’ Option
- Tap on the ‘Games’ Option
- Tap on the ‘Game Tools’ Option
- And Then Enable the Feature by Tapping on the Toggle
Explanation
So just like before, you’re going to need to dive into the Settings application and then pull up the Advanced Features section. From here, look for the Games option and then you should see the Game Tools features. Once you tap here, there will be a toggle at the top that lets you toggle the Galaxy S7 Game Tools feature on and off. You’ll also get an option toward the bottom called Record, and from here you can configure a number of things that involve the recording feature of Game Tools.
For instance, you can change your avatar image, or tell the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to use the front-facing camera while you are recording gameplay footage. You have the ability to record audio through the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge’s internal microphone (which is what it is set to by default). But you also have the option to record the game audio instead. It should be noted that if you are recording the game audio then it will pick up other system sounds like a ringtone, a notification alert, etc.
The last options here are for video and audio quality. You can change the recorded resolution from 720p (which is what it is at by default), to either 1080p, 540p, 480p or 360p. On the audio quality side of things, the default option is set to Auto and this means the recorded audio quality will be based on the video resolution you set. If you want to change this, you can change it to 6Mbps, 5Mbps, 3Mbps or 1Mbps. Setting the audio and/or video settings to a higher quality will increase the file size of your recordings. So be aware of that if you don’t have much storage space available.
Once the Galaxy S7 Game Tools are enabled, you can simply launch a mobile game that you have installed and you’ll see a floating button on the screen during gameplay. This button will stay on the edge of the screen, but you can choose to tap and drag it around to re-position it. When you want to use one of the Galaxy S7 Game Tools’ features, you’ll simply tap on the floating button and you’ll get a series of options to choose from.
As mentioned earlier, you can restrict or allow alerts to happen while you are playing a mobile game. You have the ability to disable the Recents and Back buttons while you’re in the middle of a gaming session. You can take a screenshot of something while you’re playing the game. You can record your gaming session and then upload it to YouTube later. And then you can minimize the game to a floating button. The game will still be active in the background (so you won’t lose your progress), but you do have the ability to launch another app and then come back to the game later.
Do you use any of these Galaxy S7 Game Tools? Personally, I really like the ability to disable the Back and Recents button but I want to hear what you use Game Tools the most for.
