I was surprised to learn that Fast Charging wasn’t on by default so today I want to show you how to turn on the Galaxy S7 Fast Charging feature.
Many people are having trouble getting through the end of the day with enough battery life left in their smartphone. This is a drastic change to how things used to be with feature phones that could go weeks and sometimes months on a single charge. One way that OEMs solved this issue was with removable batteries. This let someone carrier around a small battery in their pocket or purse and then simply swap out batteries whenever they needed.
Not all OEMs do this though and others have had to carry around Power Banks to keep their smartphone charged throughout the day.
Having a removable battery introduces moving parts that can break over time and it can also increase the overall thickness of the smartphone(something OEMs generally hate). So more and more have opted for embedded batteries leaving a Power Bank as our only option left. Interestingly enough, there’s been a new trend to resolve this issue and that is with Fast Charging.
It doesn’t eliminate the issue for those who can’t be near a wall outlet. . .but it can help if you only have at least 15 minutes. 15 minutes of charging can make your device last for a few hours(of light usage), which is what most people generally need to get them through the day.
The Galaxy S7 has Fast Charging but I was surprised to see that, at least my Verizon model, had this feature disabled by default.
Not everyone wants Fast Charging so I can see why it was disabled. Using Fast Charging will heat up your device more than regular charging and some feel it will degrade the longevity of the battery faster than regular charging. So even if you don’t want Fast Charging, it’s possible that your model of the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge has it enabled by default(unlike mine) and you might want to go in and disable the feature right now.
Galaxy S7 Fast Charging
- Launch the Settings Application
- Scroll Down and Tap on the ‘Battery’ Option
- Toggle the ‘Fast Charging’ Option On or Off
Explanation
This tutorial isn’t very complicated or anything, but again, it was surprising that this feature was disabled by default on my Verizon Galaxy S7 and I really like that it can be turned both on and off. I really, really enjoy it when phones and software give the user the ability to customize and personalize a device for each person.
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes and we should have the opportunity to use our smartphones and tablets how we want to. I use the Nexus 6P regularly and being able to turn Fast Charging off is not an option. The only way to charge normally is by using a regular charger instead of the stock one.
The stock charger that comes with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is a fast charger so you won’t have to go out and buy a new one. If you want Fast Charging on your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge then you can double check this Battery section within the Settings of Android and see if the feature is on or off. Then you’ll be able to control how you want your smartphone to charge. If you are paranoid about heat(which is smart if you life in a hot climate or maybe you’re in the middle of playing a game), then you might want to disable the Fast Charging feature. If you’re more interested in getting your device charged as quickly as possible then you can simply enable the feature from here.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about Fast Charging in the comments section below. Do you like it and use it? Are you against it and avoid it? Let me know down below.
My charger was plugged in and fast charging showed as disabled. It said I must unplug charger to toggle switch on. I unplugged, toggled fast charging to on and plugged charger back in. The toggle instantly goes back to off. Any idea why? It’s a S7 Edge UK stock.
Are you using the exact cable and charger that came with your Galaxy S7 Edge?
Yes. It’s OK, think I sussed it out, though it toggles back to off when plugged in, it shows fast charging in notification panel – but the manual seems to suggest it only uses quick charge when screen or phone itself is off so not sure if it’s actually working while I use it. Thanks for the quick reply, still going through the phone setting it up, took me 5 minutes hunting for the dialler (hidden in edge panel) earlier, was losing my mind!
When mine is quick charging, I do keep the device locked. But when I press the power button to view the lock screen, I’m told at the bottom that it is fast charging
This should be your indicator as to whether or not the device is fast charging
Does the quick charge toggle turn to off when you plug in your charger and you’re on the quick charge option screen?
Yes, it does. Well. . .I don’t see it turn off(the toggle does not move to the left), but the entire quick charge option turns gray.
OK, at least we have the same behaviour on our devices so I assume mine is working right. Thanks for your replies and the article!
Not a problem, I’m glad that I could help 🙂
the fast charging is enable but it doesnt work!!! please help me ( i tried a lot of cables and.powers )
