Galaxy S6: List of Custom Kernels

We’re still early in the development cycle but I’ve still been able to gather a list of Galaxy S6 custom kernels that you can try on your device right now.

Not many people know what a custom kernel is and how it can affect their smartphones and tablets. I’ve you’ve read any of the other tutorials I have written about custom kernels then you’ll know that I like to use the car/driver metaphor. I like to think of a custom ROM as a car as it looks different and has different features/placement of features than you would have in another car.

However, the driver would be like the custom kernel since a driver controls the car and can choose how the car performs. Even if you were in a race car, the driver could still drive it slowly and efficiently.

A kernel inside your Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is telling the custom ROM and the hardware how to do its job. You have some custom kernels that tell the Galaxy S6 to be efficient and while it might seem a tad slower, you’ll get more battery life with it. On the other hand, some custom kernels tell the Galaxy S6 to go full speed ahead and this gives you amazing performance but will typically decrease the overall battery life that you can get. Each custom kernel is built by the developer with a specific goal in mind and that goal could be focused on performance, battery life or even a mixture of the two.

You’ll find all of the custom kernels that I was able to locate(as of writing this) listed below. I’ve divided them up and labeled them according to their model number so if you don’t see your model number listed here then a custom kernel hasn’t been made for it yet. It is advised that you do not flash a custom kernel that isn’t made for your specific device. Even if you think that it everything is the same, it’s probably not and it can send your Galaxy S6 into a bootloop.
