We carry so many parts of our lives in our smartphones that being able to customize the experience really goes a long way. Many people enjoy a minimalistic UI while others simply want the least amount of clutter. A part of this is removing apps from the app drawer and home screen of the Samsung Galaxy S10 series.
I’ve always praised application developers and smartphone OEMs that go out of their way to include extra layers of customization. No matter if it’s customizing the function of an application (and smartphone) or just the visual elements including the color scheme or placement of options.
It’s the reason why most smartphones let you choose a wallpaper for the lock screen of your smartphone. This feature hasn’t always been available from the majority of the smartphone OEMs out there. It used to be omitted from custom ROMs as well. But customizing our smartphone has become a priority for some people.
It’s why the Galaxy S10 Wallpapers trend happened as fast as it did.
Customizing the Home Screen and App Drawer is also important for some people so let me show you how to hide any applications or games that you don’t want to see.
Time needed: 3 minutes
How to Hide an Application Icon from the Galaxy S10 Home Screen and App Drawer
- Long press on an empty spot of the Home Screen
- Tap the Home Screen Settings button in the bottom right of the screen
- Then scroll down so you can tap on the Hide Apps menu
- And scroll through the list to find an application you want to hide
- Tap the empty bubble/button in the top left corner of the app you want to hide
- Lastly, you can tap the Apply button in the bottom right when you are finished selecting the apps you want to hide
Now, this is a lot different than disabling an app on the Samsung Galaxy S10. I walked you through that previous and mentioned that you had the ability to hide an application that you may not want to disable. This detailed guide above shows you how to do that and it just goes to show you how versatile Android is.
Since we aren’t disabling it and just hiding it, the application will still perform as you would expect. I give you an example of this in the embedded video above where I go in and hide the Pushbullet application. I don’t need to see this in the Home Screen or in the App Drawer, but I still want to use it.
So by following these steps and hiding it, I don’t have to see the icon and I can still use it via the Android share menu.
How to Unhide Apps and Games on the Samsung Galaxy S10
You will see a white bubble at the top of the screen as soon as you hide your first application using your Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy S10+, or Galaxy S10e. This bubble will grow to accommodate all of the applications you have chosen to hide and it is used as a way to unhide an application as well.
Just like when you’re hiding an application in the list, you’ll see a button in the top left corner of the app icon. When you tap on this red minus sign bubble then the application icon will be unhidden. It will then appear in the alphabetical list below so that you can go in and hide it again in the future if you want.
The moment an application goes into the hidden apps bubble, it is instantly removed from the App Drawer and the Home Screen of the Galaxy S10. The same thing happens the instant you unhide it too. Just know that when you unhide an application you will need to manually put it back in the spot you want it.
I noticed this as I had hidden apps that were in the Dock and I had to manually put them back into the Dock after I removed them from the hidden apps section.
