AI has become a prominent buzzword, gaining more attention with Samsung’s recent promotion of AI on Galaxy devices. The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series last week showcased the inclusion of Galaxy AI as it’s most highlighted feature. Galaxy AI is essentially Samsung’s integration of AI capabilities into the Galaxy S24 OS to enhance task efficiency.
However, recent news suggested that the Samsung Galaxy AI will no longer be offered for free on Samsung Galaxy devices after 2025. Samsung has finally addressed the speculation surrounding the fate of Galaxy AI post-2025.
T.M. Roh, the Chief of Samsung Mobile, confirmed to ET Telecom what many already suspected – Galaxy AI will cease to be free after 2025. Despite Samsung’s significant investment in the development of Galaxy AI, it will remain free for Samsung users until 2025. The announcement has left many wondering about the future of Galaxy AI beyond 2025 and according to Samsung, even they have yet to make a decision.
T.M. Roh said to ET Telecom that Samsung has not finalized the plans for Galaxy AI after 2025. However, he mentioned that the company intends to introduce more advance AI features exclusively for paid subscribers.
“According to our analysis, there are various needs for mobile AI. So, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free. Then there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful AI capabilities and even pay for them. So, in the future decision-making, we will take all these factors into consideration,” T.M. Roh said.
With the deadline set for 2025, there is still time for more information to emerge about the future of Galaxy AI in the coming months. Android Authority tried to contact Samsung for a comment on the matter, but the OEM has not responded yet.
On a positive note, T.M. Roh stated that Samsung aims to bring the Galaxy AI to 100 million devices worldwide this year. The OEM has confirmed that Galaxy AI will extend to older Galaxy devices, including last year’s Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Tab S9 series in the first half of this year”.
