No doubt you use your smartphone daily. Connecting to the internet isn’t something you just do anymore – you’re always on. But you’d be amazed at just who is snooping on your online activity on your Android cell. In fact, even the Defense Intelligence Agency is at it. Yup, you can literally never hide (or can you?) when you’re online. That’s why we take a look at the extent of snooping, by law enforcement and cybercriminals, and how you can protect yourself with a VPN.
I am the law!
You might imagine Sylvester Stallone shouting that out in the original Judge Dredd film (if you’re old enough, otherwise look it up), but it could also be what employees at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) shout to themselves as they conduct their snooping activity.
The thing is, for a government agency to get location data from a cell phone, it needs a warrant. But the DIA ignored that by using a loophole as it’s actually legal for a first party to sell your location to third parties. Great! The Director of National Intelligence has previously admitted that the Patriot Act allows them to spy on web browsing and there’s been a huge push for the Fourth Amendment is not for Sale Act, as it’s common knowledge that US law enforcement are using the rules to suit themselves to spy on smartphone data.
But you can combat that
In fact, not only can you protect yourself, but you can laugh in the face of the law (should you wish), knowing that they won’t be able to manufacturer laws to try and snoop on you. It’s not just the DIA who are browsing internet traffic, many companies track you once you’ve been on their site and who can forget about cybercrime, which is on the rise. But, as we said, you can combat all of this. All you need to do is find an effective VPN for Android phone and then the next time you use your device, you’ll be able to do it in complete secrecy.
By secrecy, we don’t mean that you’re sitting away in a dark room, with only the glow of your smartphone providing any light. No, we mean you’ll be able to go online and use your smartphone without the worry of anyone spying on your online activity. You’ll also protect yourself against online hackers.
A VPN allows you to:
- Encrypt all of your internet traffic by selecting a safe IP address from a list of thousands. That way, the DIA won’t be able to trace you (and we hope they’re not!), nor will your internet service provider, companies or the increasing number of sophisticated cybercriminals.
- Keep all of your personal details safe, such as your address and banking details.
- Enjoy complete privacy, whatever you’re using the internet for – whether it’s browsing the web on your Android or streaming movies or songs, nobody will know what you’re up to.
Much more than security
A VPN for your Android is a great way to protect yourself online but it also comes with a whole load of additional benefits. If you’re partial to retail therapy and want only the best prices, you can change your server locations and find the best prices, most likely better prices than if you logged on from your original IP address.
By masking your IP address you’ll also be able to circumvent geo-restrictions. You’ll have access to websites that your internet service provider blocks as well as the chance to watch more shows from streaming sites that are restrictive depending on your location. Want to download at high speeds and not worry about having your bandwidth restricted? Nor want to worry about getting in trouble, even if you are legally downloading? Again, a VPN hides all traces of you so you won’t have to fret about this.
Easy to use, too
When using a VPN on your Android, you’ll be able to use it just like all your other apps. A simple tap to open it up and then you can configure it how you want. VPNs are easy to use, and often just require you to select the server you want and then hit go. You can be protected behind a VPN in just a few taps of your screen. Then you’ll never have to worry about the DIA or any other national law enforcement agency using the law to their own gain to try and penalize you. Nor will any cybercriminal be able to get hold of your information. All those snoopers can buzz off.
