Elon Musk has long been hinting at the possibility of rebranding Twitter and now he has officially confirmed it through a series of tweets. In his latest announcement, Musk declared that the Bird app will bid farewell to it’s current brand, including the iconic Bird logo, as the platform transforms.

On a Sunday, Musk tweeted, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and gradually, all the birds. If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make(it) go live worldwide tomorrow.”

Having acquired Twitter for a staggering $44 billion last year, Musk has been implementing various changes on the platform. However, these changes have not been without criticism from users, particularly in response to a new restriction on daily tweet views.

The new name for the microblogging platform will be “X” and Musk has expressed his eagerness to roll out the new brand image shortly. To give users a glimpse of what to expect, he posted a flickering image of the letter “X” on Twitter, possibly hinting at the new logo.

The letter “X” holds special significance for Elon Musk. He previously founded the X.com payment website, which was later merged with PayPal. Additionally, the letter “X” is present in SpaceX, another company owned and led by Musk, as well as in the model names of Tesla cars, of which Musk is also the CEO. Notably, in 2017, Musk bought back the defunct domain X.com from PayPal.

For quite some time, Musk has been discussing his idea of creating a super app that goes beyond conventional information-sharing and idea-posting. This app would facilitate online payments and food ordering, similar to the popular WeChat app widely used in China. In April of this year, Musk merged Twitter with his X Corp, effectively dissolving Twitter.com on paper.

As the rebranding process takes shape, users can look forward to experiencing a revamped platform that aligns with Musk’s vision of a versatile and multifunctional super app. The transition from Twitter to “X” aims to offer users an enhanced online experience with a broader range of features and services. While the exact details of the new app remain to be seen, it’s clear that Elon Musk is determined to bring about a major transformation in the world of social media.
