China’s New Policy Force App Devs to Furnish Their Business Info

Following the suit of world governments, China has crafted new rules to keep a check on app developers – by asking them to share their business details.

While this move was reasoned to counter malicious apps, many see this as China tightening it’s grip over the digital space. App developers have been given time until March 2024 and those who fail to comply may attract punitive actions, warns China.

China’s New Digital Regulations

China has already secured it’s digital space with a great virtual firewall and is now trying to tighten this grip with a new regulation. As noted by Reuters, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) this week introduced a regulation – that requires all app developers to submit their business information to the agency.

Though the Ministry stated this new regulation is to combat fraudulent apps, experts think otherwise. The country could be using this information to better it’s grip while also thumping down those not supportive of it’s requests.

China has given app developers until March 2024 and those who don’t comply by then will face disciplinary actions, warns MIIT. The new regulations will also draw international app developers into the pool, who, for long, enjoyed launching their apps on platforms like Tencent without any official paperwork from the Chinese regulators.

Now, they might be forced to establish a formal presence in China or collaborate with a local entity. WeChat has already supported this regulation, saying all it’s mini-apps will comply with the new rules.
