If you find yourself searching for or launching the Calendar application often then you might want to know that accessing it is one swipe(and tap) away.
The calendar in our smartphones has replaced the need to buy and use a physical calendar for a lot of people. Just like the contacts application in our devices have given some of us zero reason to maintain an address book anymore. With so much of our schedule and appointments tucked away in the calendar, the developers behind CyanogenMod were nice enough to give us a shortcut to our calendar and most people don’t even realize that it’s there.
It doesn’t matter if your smartphone is locked or if you’re in the middle of playing that flavor of the month mobile game, all you have to do is swipe down from the top of your screen to reveal the Quick Settings menu. At the top left you should see the current time and date, so all you have to do is tap on that and it will minimize whatever you are doing and take you directly into the Calendar. Now, if your smartphone is locked, then you will be required to put in the passcode/password/pattern/etc before it will unlock and reveal the calendar.
I have tested this with CyanogenMod 12.1 on my LG G3 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was available in previous versions of CM as well. I hope that Google will adopt this shortcut in a future version of Android. I just checked vanilla Android 5.0 and 5.1 and neither had this feature but maybe we’ll see it in Android M.
