Apple’s latest software update to eligible devices has a bunch of new features spanning across security, design and functionality.
Notable among them is the Stolen Device Protection, which asks the user to provide a Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback, which is helpful in a stolen situation. Also, Apple brought AirPlay for hotels, the 2024 Black Unity wallpaper suite and collaborative playlists to iPhone.
Apple iOS 17.3 Features
Apple, in it’s latest software update to iPhones, brought the new Unity 2024 wallpaper suite, honouring the Black history and culture. The collection includes a newly designed Sport band, Apple Watch face and iPhone wallpaper. Interested users can add these from the wallpaper picker, termed Unity 2024 artwork.
This aside, there’s a new Stolen Device Protection to increase the security of your iPhone and Apple ID by asking the user(thief, if stolen) to provide a Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback to perform certain actions. Also, the Security Delay feature will push the unlock wait time to an hour and requires Face ID or Touch ID for authentication.
And then there’s Collaborative Playlists, which allows you to invite friends to join your playlist and let them add, reorder and remove songs. This feature was premiered in iOS 17.2 beta and now has rolled out to iOS 17.3 for everyone. Apple Music, on the other hand, allows users to react with an emoji to songs. iPadOS 17.3 added this feature to eligible iPads.
Finally, Apple added AirPlay Hotel to let users play videos from their iPhones to hotel TVs using WiFi. Well, this feature is only available in select hotels, like those from IHG Hotels & Resorts, and select LG models like Pro:Centric Smart Hotel TVs.
This aside, Apple optimized the Crash detection feature on all iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models, while displaying all the devices supported by AppleCare & Warranty in the Settings app when signed in with your Apple ID.
