AI is the next big thing for smartphones and big players like Google and Samsung already introduced some useful AI features on their Pixel 8 series and Galaxy S24 series. Now, it is time for Apple to speed up things and introduce some useful and practical AI features for iPhones. This was announced during the recent earning calls that Apple will bring generative AI features to the iPhone this year.
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced during the Q1 2024 earning calls to investors “that the tech giant is working on generative AI features. Apple will discuss more generative AI features later this year” which may indicate that in iOS 18 we will see some AI features like Android 14.
Tim Cook said in a statement, “In terms of generative AI, which, I’d guess, is your focus, we have a lot of work going on internally as I’ve alluded to before. Our MO, if you will, has always been to do work and then talk about work and not to get out in front of ourselves. And so, we’re going to hold that to this as well. But we’ve got some things that we are incredibly excited about that we’ll be talking about later this year”.
Tim Cook did not indulge in further details about the upcoming AI features nor did he disclose which Apple devices will receive these AI features. However, from the leaks and rumors, it seems generative AI feature will reach iPhones in the coming months.
Also, code snippets in iOS 17.4 hints that Siri will be able to generate summaries and smart reply suggestions in messages using AI across Apple music, Pages and Keynotes. Apple is also working on different AI models, some for the internet and some running on devices.
Tim Cook also did not disclose the date when we could see the generative AI features on iPhones. However, there might be a chance that Apple will announce generative AI features for iOS 18 at WWDC 2024. The WWDC 2024 will be held somewhere in June 2024 and there might be some details about Apple’s generative AI feature in that event.
