Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted a new Mac was spotted running the base version of the M3 chip, which could be the next-gen Mac Mini, scheduled for October this year.
The new chip is said to have eight CPU and ten GPU cores, the same as it’s predecessor, so we shouldn’t be expecting a significant performance jump in the new machine. Well, Gurman also notes that the high-end M3 chips equip better hardware than their predecessors, making them more reliable.
Mac Mini With M3 Chip
With the launch of the latest Mac Pro, Apple is done transitioning it’s entire Mac fleet to it’s in-house chips, the M-series. As the company is set to debut it’s next-gen M3 chips in October, it’s expected to revamp the future Mac lineup with the new processor family too.
In this pursuit, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has spotted a new Mac device running a base variant of M3 chip this week on a third-party developer log, citing it could be the next-gen Mac Mini. He wrote;
“The Mac in testing includes eight CPU cores (four efficiency and four performance cores), ten graphics processor cores and 24 gigabytes of memory. This machine runs macOS Sonoma 14.1, the first point update to the upcoming new Mac software release.”
All these specifications indicate the chip is an M3 processor, which is probably fitted in the next-generation Mac mini. While all these specs show the base version of the M3 is equally capable as it’s M2 counterpart, the M3 Pro comes in a bit stronger than it’s predecessor, having 12 CPU cores and 18 graphics cores. The high-end M3 Max is estimated to reach 14 CPU cores and over 40 graphics cores!
As for when we can see all these new Macs, expect them to arrive in October this year, following the grand iPhone 15 Series launch in September.
