A Taiwanese media reported that Apple is working on a budget-friendly MacBook that’ll be placed as an alternative to Chromebooks.
Aiming to capture college-going students, Apple may build it’s device with less-premium hardware to make it affordable. While there is no information on specifications or price, the report states the touted MacBook may come in Q2 2024.
A Budget-Friendly MacBook
For a long time, Apple has been known for it’s premium devices with high-end hardware, which gradually put the company’s offerings in an elite club. But with more people worldwide in middle and lower class, it’s trying to make slightly budget-friendly products wherever possible.
The iPhone SE series is an example of that, which served the upper-middle class for a while. And now, Apple is reportedly making a low-cost MacBook to help students who would instead rely on Chromebooks for their academic work.
It’s no wonder Apple wants to get a share of Chromebook’s pie in the education sector, as the device is highly successful among students. It’s sleek, cheap and does the college work as needed. Microsoft, too, has tried it’s hands on this by positioning it’s Surface laptops and tablets for the purpose, but can’t get enough from them.
So did Apple, heavily advertising the iPad as a reliable alternative to laptops for college students. Yet, it’s not enough to beat the Chromebook’s popularity. Thus, it’s now reportedly working on a budget-friendly MacBook, as noted by DigiTimes.
The purported device is set to debut in Q2 of 2024, but no details on it’s specifications or pricing are known. Well, the report mentions that Apple is using a different metallic substance for this new MacBook, which is different from the current aluminium alloy used on standard MacBooks.
Also, the internal hardware may be downgraded to make the device budget-friendly, says the report. Well, since we haven’t heard from any other credible sources yet, we should consider this report with a pinch of salt for now.
