A new tip from a Pixel fan club states that the Android ecosystem may soon get a satellite-based emergency SOS feature – similar to that of Apple.
While it’s still a leak, Google has an excellent reason to add this feature to Android, considering how helpful it has been to Apple users. The report also states the feature may roll out in the stable version of Android 14, with high-end Pixel and Samsung phones picking it up first.
Satellite SOS in Android 14
Though Android is flexible and resourceful, Apple always puts it’s iOS ahead with top-notch security and privacy features. The company took this to another level by adding a satellite-based emergency SOS feature on the iPhone 14 Series last year that helped people in critical situations.
Since it’s proven useful, Google could be cooking a similar feature for Android – as noted by Pixel fan club, TeamPixel, this week. Though expected, the leak should be taken with a pinch of salt since it’s from a fan club. But if it’s coming, it will make it’s way to the high-end Pixel and Samsung phones initially.

To the unknown, Apple’s Emergency SOS works without any cellular signal, making it an essential service in stranded areas with no connectivity. The device will connect to an orbiting satellite to send an emergency text to the nearby services provider. This feature has saved lives several times, pushing other OEMs to make similar features on their devices.
Google’s got three months to unveil it’s next flagship, The Pixel 8 Series and a couple of updates to bring Android 14 to the stable version. So we are hopefully waiting for this addition in the meantime.
