Amazon is all Set to Launch its Kuiper Satellites into Earth's Orbit

At last, Amazon has obtained all the necessary licenses to start it’s own Starlink-like service in the US – named Project Kuiper.

The company is keen to send over 3,200 satellites to the Earth’s lower orbit through United Launch Alliance’s new Vulcan Centaur rocket in the coming months. When done, it’ll be able to beam the internet signals to people’s devices on the ground, similar to SpaceX’s Starlink.

Commencing Amazon’s Kuiper Project

A couple of years after getting the initial license from the FCC, Amazon’s Project Kuiper has now been cleared to commence it’s operations into the sky. Back in 2020, the FCC ordered the Kuiper team to get approvals from relevant authorities for orbital debris mitigation plans.

As Amazon had finally been granted, the Kuiper is all set to start now. With this and the final latest approval, Project Kuiper will launch about 3,236 satellites into earth’s lower orbit – letting them beam the internet signals down to earth.

Users need to have a receiver-like gadget set up at/on their homes to receive the broadband service, similar to SpaceX’s Starlink. With the aim of connecting the unserved and underserved communities to the internet, Project Kuiper relies on United Launch Alliance’s new Vulcan Centaur rocket to send their satellites into the sky.

Well, since the rocket is still under testing, it may take a few months to initiate the project. Well, Amazon has other things to care about, meanwhile, as FCC ordered it to submit a semi-annual report “concerning the number of satellites launched and disposal reliability” and a report on disposal failures occurring during their operations.

Further, FCC wants the Project Kuiper team to deorbit the satellites after their seven-year mission in space – to avoid them crashing into the International Space Station or other inhabitable stations.
