Some AliExpress sellers are reportedly duping buyers with fake Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 Series GPUs by hiding their technical information on the product.
More specifically, they’re painting the memory module details of these GPUs to sell them as better variants – but instead, they’re either overused or broken. A YouTuber who had a similar experience shared his detailed review on this.
Faking the Details of GPUs
To the unknown, Nvidia’s launch of the GeForce RTX 20 Series has been a bit controversial – with the RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition report causing unwanted errors for early buyers. Many have complained of black screen, the Blue Screen of Death and even their GPUs shutting down immediately after turning on.
While Nvidia acknowledged this issue, it didn’t specify the root cause of this – but silently launched the first bunch of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition with Samsung GDDR6 memory modules – instead of the Micron memory modules as initially advertised.
This raised suspicion in the community – making everyone think that Micron memory-based GPUs were at fault. Since they’re avoiding these on every possible occasion – sellers on AliExpress are fake-labeling them to push away their stocks.
As reported by Paulo Gomes, a YouTube who received a similar defective product – said that AliExpress sellers are painting on Nvidia GPUs to hide their technical logos and information. Portraying them as powered by Samsung memory modules – they’re fake listing them on the online marketplace.
Well, this is not new with the AliExpress – which already has the reputation of selling faulty or “not as advertised” products for years. In the past, several cryptocurrency miners have sold their worn-up GPUs with similar feats – rebranding them or posting fake listings to dump on unsuspecting buyers.
