Air Canada, the flag carrier airline of Canada, has disclosed a data breach incident this week, affecting the sensitive data of some of it’s employees.
Assuring that no customer information was compromised, the airline said it had informed the affected parties and law enforcement. Also, it stressed that all it’s operations are intact and that working with the top cyber security experts will strengthen it’s security and prevent any incidents in the future.
Data Leak at Air Canada
Canada’s most prominent and a national airline, Air Canada, disclosed a data breach incident on September 20th, where an unknown group briefly obtained limited access to it’s infrastructure, which contained personal information of some of it’s “employees and certain records“.
While it didn’t reveal what specific information was stored on those systems, the airline said the flight operations systems and customer-facing systems were not affected, so no customer information was involved in this incident.
Further, Air Canada claims to have informed the affected parties and the relevant law enforcement authorities of this incident. The company also claims to have implemented tighter security measures after this, with the help of top cyber security experts, to prevent such incidents in the future.
The press release did not include any details regarding how the perpetrators entered their infrastructure, and it stated “no further public comment on this matter“. Well, this wasn’t the first time Air Canada had experienced a security-related incident.
In 2018, the airline disclosed that unauthorised parties had accessed the profile information of 20,000 unauthorised users. To contain further exploitation, the company had temporarily barred it’s 1.7 million mobile app users.
