Nearly a year after announcing, Google is finally bringing Microsoft Teams to Android Auto next month, at least as per the updated Microsoft 365 roadmap.
As we wait for more details, Microsoft says users can join meetings and make calls through the Teams app on Android Auto for now. It’s rival apps, like Zoom and WebEx, arrived months ago on Android Auto, as announced during the Google I/O 2023.
Microsoft Teams on Android Auto
Google, at it’s I/O 2023 conference, announced to bring several video conferencing apps to the Android Auto app, which let users engage in their office work while cruising. And nearly a year after this announcement, Google is finally adding Microsoft Teams to the Android Auto suite.
Microsoft said users can “join meetings and make calls” from the calendar view, while there’s no information on messages or other Teams-specific features. As we hope they’d gradually appear, neither Google nor Microsoft mentioned why it took so long to launch Teams on Android Auto, while rivals like Zoom and Webex – announced alongside Teams in I/O 2023 – were brought to the platform back in September 2023.
Anyhow, it’s a welcome addition to Microsoft Teams, considering that Android Auto is currently integrated with 200 million cars. Google also mentioned that it’s Android Automotive(not to be confused with Android Auto), is a full-fledged car infotainment OS, being rapidly adopted by vehicles since last year.
Many automobile manufacturers like Chevrolet, Volvo, Polestar, Honda, Renault and even GM are phasing out their internal infotainment systems in favour of Google’s Android Automotive, says Google.
