8 things you need to know about Xiaomi Mi 5s

Needless to say, the fact that the Mi 5s brought quite a lot of changes from its predecessor, the Mi 5.

Xiaomi introduces its new flagship to navigate the harsh competition in the smartphone world. Mi 5s are now stronger and fiercer … in terms of specifications. So what are the changes in the Mi 5s, both significant and gimmicky? Check out the 8 things you need to know about the Xiaomi Mi 5s below:

1. New processor, same maximum clock rate
Mi 5s is powered by a new processor from Qualcomm namely Snapdragon 821 (MSM8996PRO), however the maximum clock rate determined by Xiaomi is still the same as the Mi 5, which is equal to 2.15 GHz. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, because behind that fact the lowest clock rate still reaches 2.0 GHz, up significantly compared to the Snapdragon 820 on the Mi 5 which is only 1.59 GHz. Maybe this limitation is done by Xiaomi so that the Mi 5s can avoid the symptoms of fever, while the minimum clock rate is allowed to remain so that performance remains excellent.

2. The new camera sensor, the impact of circumcision features
The sensor used by the Xiaomi Mi 5s is now Sony Exmor RS with IMX378 code, one of the most advanced sensors made by Sony so far. There’s even news that Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL will also use the same sensor, you know. Back to the Mi 5s, at a glance the IMX378 offered on this phone is very interesting, with large pixels reaching 1.55 μm with a resolution of 12.2 Megapixels. But the use of this sensor has an impact on one of the factors that is often exhibited by Xiaomi on the Mi 5, namely the loss of OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Well, indeed if you look back a lot of doubts about the performance of OIS on the Mi 5, but for a flagship cellphone in the current era, isn’t the presence of OIS a mandatory requirement? Xiaomi argues that this is due to the large size of the IMX 378 sensor making OIS module placement impossible.

3. New material
Metal, metal, metal … this year, the material has become a trend from middle class phones to the highest class, including the Mi 5s. Compared to the Mi 5 which previously looked elegant with its glass back cover design (ceramic for Mi 5 Pro), the Mi 5s now looks more sturdy with a unibody metal body, is this because of the sadistic video of Jerry Rig Everything’s torture of the Mi 5 huh? There are different types of surfaces on the back cover of the Mi 5s, hairline finish for Gold and Dark Gray or frosted metal for Silver and Pink. Good which of course is your taste that will speak. Even so, the typical Mi 5 black border still exists, which is unfortunate considering that many people don’t like this aesthetic factor.

4. Advanced fingerprint sensor
The Mi 5s is now equipped with a fingerprint sensor with Snapdragon Sense ID technology Ultrasonic sensor. This sensor can accept your finger input even in conditions that are less supportive of the fingerprint reading. For example when your finger is wet or dirty, the fingerprint sensor will still be able to read it. Now this is interesting next, the placement of the fingerprint sensor in the Mi 5s seems unique, because it is under the surface of the screen panel. Lho? But why is there still a patch on the front panel? This is done by Xiaomi so that users still know the location of the sensor when operating the device in low light conditions.

5. Larger battery capacity
The Mi 5 only has a battery capacity of 2900 mAh, and maybe Xiaomi realizes that that number isn’t enough for all kinds of capabilities possessed by their former flagship products. Now they learned and finally pinned the 3200 mAh number on the Xiaomi Mi 5s battery label. The truth is not so significant, but seeing the potential of Qualcomm in its efforts to bring a power-efficient processor with Snapdragon 821 that uses a 14nm process, naturally activities from morning to night can be accommodated with a battery of this size.

6. Thicker dimensions
No doubt the greater capacity has an impact on the thickness of the device that can not be avoided, the Mi 5s are now 1 millimeter thicker than their sister Mi 5.

7. Screen with Pressure Sensitive technology (128 GB variant)
This feature, in my opinion, is a gimmick feature of the Mi 5s, limited to being there to boost its appearance, at least so far. How come? In the launch presentation, Lei Jun didn’t show off this feature (as I recall).

8. The initial price is the same
Lately often heard or written the phrase “Mending Xiaomi ….” from many circles both users, fans, observers both in a sarcastic tone and who really came from the heart. Perhaps the following is the main reason the sentence was said, price. When compared to competitors with the same price tag, no doubt Xiaomi is the most superior. For example, in fact the Mi 5s, equipped with many features and qualified specifications like this Xiaomi still sells Mi 5s with a price of 1999 yuan, or about 4 million, this is the same price when Xiaomi released the Mi 5, especially with that price you will get a variant with storage capacity internal is twice as big, from just 32GB on the Mi 5 to 64GB on the Mi 5S, how about not “Mending Xiaomi”?
