Fastboot is a critical mode used to do some very big modifications to your device. Today we’re going to look at a tutorial for how to get into the 2014 Moto G Fastboot Mode.
Getting into Fastboot Mode is required to do a lot of different tasks. Fastboot Mode for the 2014 Moto G is required to perform tasks like factory resetting the device, unlocking the bootloader, wiping the cache partition and booting up into the Recovery Mode. This is also a place where you can issue ADB and Fastboot commands from the terminal or command prompt.

The process is very straight forward so let’s take a look at how to do it. . .
2014 Moto G Fastboot
- Power Down the 2014 Moto G
- Press and Hold the Power Button and the Volume Down Button at the Same Time
- Continue Holding These Buttons for 3-4 Seconds
- Then Release Both the Power Button and the Volume Down Button
Explanation
As I just said, the process is very easy and it only takes a few steps to get into Fastboot Mode on the 2014 Moto G. The first thing you need to do is power down the smartphone. Once the device is completely off, you’ll need to press and hold both the Power button as well as the Volume Down buttons at the same time. Continue holding these buttons down for 3-4 seconds(I count to 5 just to be safe) and then you can let them go. When you let go of both the Power button and the Volume Down button, you should see the Fastboot Mode menu instantly appear.
When you get to this menu, you will be required to use the hardware buttons in order to navigate through the menus on the 2014 Moto G. Some Fastboot Mode menus will let you control the selector with the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, and then you use the Power button to select the highlighted option. However, just like the menu shown above, sometimes they tell you to use the Volume Down button to scroll through the menu and then use the Volume Up button to select the highlighted option. You’ll need to experiment with your Fastboot Menu or at the very least just read the text you see on the screen. It will usually tell you how to navigate through the menu.
Be careful what you do in this menu. Like the image above shows, if you select the Factory option, it will start to take you through the process of doing a factory reset. This will wipe all of the data off your smartphone and it will be as if you had just pulled the 2014 Moto G out of the box. When you want to leave this menu, you can press and hold the Power button until the device resets. Or, like you see in the menu example here, you can select the ‘Normal Powerup’ option and it will boot up into the standard Android operating system.
